Under the bylaws, Vint has just begin serving the last term for which he is eligible. When he steps down, I think you're likely to see a corporatist-type selected. When I say that someone with strong, known opinions is unlikely to be selected by the NomComm, I don't people who are loud and obnoxious. I'm talking about the same set of skills that, in many circumstances, makes someone a "leader." Part of getting through the NomComm process involves being someone on whom the committee can reach a consensus agreement. That sort of process has positives and negatives, which are open to reasonable debate on both sides.
This is not to denegrate the efforts of the NomComm by any means. I'm certainly proud of the people my NomComm selected and the latest NomComm may have even outdone us!
